Confident Sober Women

Discovering Our Identities in Recovery w/Janey Lee Grace

Shelby Episode 97

Janey Lee Grace is a sober woman who wears many hats--including being the author of many books. While writing several books on holistic living over many years, she herself was keeping the secret of her alcoholism. She was a gray area drinker and did not hit "rock bottom" with her alcohol addiction, yet recognized that her alcohol consumption was not healthy nor was it what she wanted to continue doing in her life.

Janey and I talk about the glamorization of alcohol and the reinforcement of drinking in our society. We discuss how drinking alcohol becomes part of our identity and how that causes challenges in knowing who we are when we become sober, but also the positives of early sobriety once we learn how to make space for growth, true self care, creativity, and new experiences. We also discuss the changes in, or sometimes endings of, relationships in sobriety, and she shares some great tips on developing self love and discovering our identities in recovery.

You can find Janey on Instagram @janeyleegrace and on her website thesoberclub.com.
